Shipping Company from Saudi Arabia to Bulgaria 0506688227 — Your Country Changed Currency While You Packed
Guide summary

Across sixty-three destinations the variables were customs or navigational. In Bulgaria the variable is monetary: it adopted the euro on 1 January 2026 at a fixed 1.95583, and it became sole legal tender on 1 February — so any inventory, quote or insurance policy in lev is no longer executable as it stands. Add that it is the only country in this group with two genuine routes: the Black Sea behind the two straits, or an Aegean port then the road across a fully open border.

Looking for a shipping company from Saudi Arabia to Bulgaria that knows the quote in your hand may be denominated in a currency that no longer exists? Tiger Cargo Express moves furniture, household goods, commercial cargo and vehicles to Varna, Burgas, Sofia and the rest of Bulgaria — by sea, road and air — with dismantling, professional packing, reassembly, customs clearance at both ends and cargo insurance. To book: 0506688227

Across sixty-three destinations we have written about, the variables were customs, navigational or regulatory: a document deadline, an import window, a constraint on the steering wheel.

Here the variable is of a kind we have not met before:

Your country changed its currency while you were packing.

⭐⭐ Bulgaria adopted the euro on 1 January 2026 and became the twenty-first member of the euro area.

Dual circulation ran through January, and the euro has been the sole legal tender since 1 February 2026.

⚠️ Which means something very practical for you: any quote, invoice or insurance policy denominated in lev is no longer executable as it stands.

And anyone who obtained a quote before the changeover and compared it with one after it, compared two figures that do not compare.

1.95583lev to the euro — fixed rate
21the euro area’s newest member
2routes — sea and land
12months — the EU residence rule

What we ship from Saudi Arabia to Bulgaria

Traffic on this lane is relocation, investment and study: Bulgarians returning from the Gulf, professionals moving on work contracts, students in medical faculties, and buyers of property on the Black Sea coast.

Furniture and household goodsA full home or part of one — under the EU transfer-of-residence relief and its conditions, set out below.
⭐ Coastal apartment fit-outsFurniture and appliances for properties in Varna and Burgas — a meaningful flow on this lane specifically.
Student and relocation effectsBoxes and selected items to Sofia and Plovdiv — usually by shared consignment or air.
Commercial cargoFor companies and importers — on a route separate from the personal-effects one.
VehiclesLeft-hand drive is the standard here — so your Gulf car is fine on that count.
Mission and organisation shipmentsIn Sofia — on an independent route with their own documentation.

⭐⭐ The currency changeover — and what it means for your quote

A freight quotation for Bulgaria with the currency column struck through and rewritten
The price was written in a currency that no longer exists — and the figure alone is not enough.
Stage Date What it means for your file
⭐ Euro adoption 1 January 2026 Bulgaria becomes the twenty-first euro area member
Fixed conversion rate 1.95583 lev to the euro A fixed rate, not a floating one — which helps planning
⭐ Dual circulation Through January 2026 A short transitional window — now closed
⭐⭐ Euro as sole legal tender Since 1 February 2026 Any quote in lev is no longer executable as it stands
⭐ Dual price display Until August 2026 In shops — not necessarily in contracts and invoices

⭐ And why does this matter to a shipper rather than a tourist?

Because a shipping file is made of paper — and every page carries a figure
A tourist pays cash and moves on. Your file, by contrast, holds documents carrying values that are read months after they are written:

The detailed valued inventory — the foundation of the entire transfer-of-residence file.
The insurance policy and its cover limits.
The inland transport invoice and its line items.
And any older quote the client is still holding.

⚠️ Anyone who wrote their inventory in lev before the changeover and submitted it after, submits a document with values in a currency no longer in circulation.

The remedy is not complicated — but it needs attention:

The conversion rate is fixed at 1.95583 lev to the eurowhich works in your favour, because the conversion is arithmetic rather than a guess.

But the document must say in euro what it used to say in lev — not be left for the reader to work out.

And the rule we hold to

  • ⭐ We do not issue a quote in a currency no longer in circulationwe price in euro and state the quote’s validity date explicitly.
  • ⭐ We write the valued inventory in euro — not in lev, and not in a third currency requiring two conversions.
  • ⭐ We review the insurance policy and its cover limits in the same currency — because a cover limit in an old currency is an ambiguous limit.
  • And we state the fixed conversion rate in the quote where needed — so both sides know how the figure was reached.
  • And we never compare two quotes in two currencies for you — we restate both in one currency before comparing.

Compare with two countries in the same group: Croatia adopted the euro in January 2023and Romania has not adopted it, its currency being the Romanian leu. Three neighbouring countries in three different monetary positions — and anyone quoting you for “the Balkans” with a single offer has not noticed.

⭐ Two routes, not one

Bulgaria shares with Romania the fact that its ports lie on the Black Seabehind the very same two straits.

But Bulgaria has something Romania does not: an open land border with Greece.

Aspect Direct sea route ⭐ Combined route via Greece
The port Varna or Burgas A Greek Aegean port, then the road
⭐ The two straits Transited — the Dardanelles then the Bosphorus Not transited at all
⭐ The land border Not used Bulgaria’s border with Greece is fully open
Service frequency Lower — the Black Sea is enclosed Higher — Aegean ports sit on an open route
⭐ Extra stage No — discharge in your own country Yes — a substantial road run
Best suited to Varna, Burgas and the coast — and larger volumes Sofia and the south — and urgent cargo
⭐ And why has the land route become a genuine option?
Because Bulgaria has been a full Schengen member since January 2025, and its borders with Greece and Romania are now fully open.

Checks at internal air and sea borders had been lifted in March 2024, and land border checks followed in January 2025, completing the membership.

Which means reaching a Greek port and continuing north has become a continuous route rather than a broken one.

⚠️ But do not confuse two things:

Schengen concerns checks on persons — the road has become easier for the driver and the vehicle.
The customs union is another mattercargo arriving from outside the EU is cleared at its first point of entry into the EU, whether that is Greek or Bulgarian.

Which means a decision to be taken before booking, not after: where does clearance take place?

We present both routes to you — by duration, cost and point of clearance, in writing — so that you choose.

The ports of Varna and Burgas

Sea freight from Saudi Arabia to Bulgaria's Black Sea ports of Varna and Burgas
A basin on an enclosed sea — where the date matters more than the rate.
⭐ VarnaThe northern Black Sea port — closest to the northern coast and its property districts, and to the inland road toward Sofia.
⭐ BurgasThe southern port — closest to the southern coast, and to the road into southern Bulgaria.
Air freightTo Sofia, Varna or Burgas — for urgent and small cargo, and it bypasses both straits entirely.

The rule on this lane: the choice of port follows your destination inside Bulgaria, not the other way round. Anyone who shipped to Varna with a home in the south added a road run that could have been avoided. We ask which city before we fix the port.

The customs framework — transfer of residence relief

Bulgaria has been an EU member since 2007 and works under the same European customs framework we explained in our Greece article.

  • ⭐ Normal residence outside the EU for twelve continuous months before transferring your residence.
  • ⭐ Ownership and use of the goods for at least six months before shipping.
  • ⭐ Import within twelve months of establishing your normal residence.
  • ⚠️ A twelve-month disposal restriction after release: the goods may not be lent, pledged, hired out or transferred during that period.
  • The goods are for personal use and proportionate to your household’s needs — not for a commercial purpose.
  • ⭐ And you submit alongside them the residence registration certificate, a detailed inventory valued in euro, the passport and proof of address.
A note on this section
What we present is the framework in force as we work with it in practice; some details are decided case by case by the competent authority, and requirements are subject to change. This is why we review the current position with you before bookingand also check that every value in your file is written in the currency now in force. We prepare the file and coordinate the timing — we do not provide legal, tax or immigration advice.

Car shipping to Bulgaria

  • ⭐ Left-hand drive is the standard hereso your Gulf car is fine on that count.
  • ⭐ Inside the residence relief or outside it: a vehicle entering under the relief is subject to the same ownership, use and disposal conditions — settled before booking.
  • ⭐ The vehicle’s value in the file is stated in euro: it is the highest-value line in most files — and writing it in an old currency is the most visible error in the whole document.
  • Technical conformity for registration: importing is one thing and registering is another — set out in writing.
  • Draining fuel and disconnecting the battery: a standard step with no exceptions — a vessel safety requirement.
  • Four-point lashing inside the container: with straps and chocks — not an improvised timber wedge.
  • ⭐ Emptying the vehicle completely and photographing it before sealing: condition and odometer — handed to you as a file.

Shipping for embassies, consulates and their staff

Their presence is in Sofia as the capital, with clearance at Varna, Burgas or the capital’s airport.

Shipments for diplomatic and consular missions and their accredited staff do not travel the personal-effects route and are not subject to its conditions — neither the twelve-month requirement nor the disposal restriction. The basis is the standing of the mission or your accreditation to it, the reference framework is the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961, and treatment is confirmed through the competent official channels.

⭐ But currency does not recognise standing
The heaviest thing in this article is not a customs condition — it is a unit of measure.

Any document carrying a value — an inventory, an invoice or an insurance policy — is read in the currency now in force, whether the consignee is a relocating family or a diplomatic mission.

Standing changes the path of the paperwork; it does not change the unit of measure inside it.

Which means a mission’s inventory is written in euro exactly as any client’s is, and the cover limits in the insurance policy are reviewed in the same currency.

⚠️ Anyone who prepared a mission file with values written before the changeover prepared a document correct in standing and ambiguous in figure.

We review both.

Official mission shipmentsOffice furniture, fittings, equipment and vehicles in the mission’s name — with the mission itself as consignee.
Accredited staff effectsHousehold goods and personal items for the diplomat and family, at the start or end of a posting.
International organisationsTreatment is set by their standing and headquarters agreement — settled before the bill of lading is issued.
  • We establish standing first and build the file on it — not the other way round.
  • ⭐ And we write every value in euro in every case — the currency in force does not distinguish between one shipment and another.
  • We start with the competent department, not the individual — formal correspondence is the foundation of the file.
  • We match the consignee name and standing across the correspondence and the bill of lading before issuing.
  • We document the inventory to a higher standard and deliver it certified by both parties.
  • We maintain full confidentiality over information, contents and movement schedules.

And we say it plainly: determining what an exemption covers and how far it extends rests with the competent authorities, and the mission has its own official channels. Our role is purely logistical. We work in both directions.

Furniture and household goods moving from Saudi Arabia to Bulgaria

The work here starts with the paperwork before the carton.

Furniture and household goods moving from Saudi Arabia to Bulgaria carried up an older building's stairwell
Narrow stone stairwells — and a final stretch we survey before promising a date.
  • ⭐ An inventory valued in euro: the transfer-of-residence file is read through its inventory before anything else — and in the currency now in force, not the old one.
  • ⭐ Fixing the residence date: because the twelve-month window starts from it — and it governs the whole timing of the shipment.
  • ⭐ Choosing the route before booking: direct by sea to Varna or Burgas, or combined via a Greek port and then the road?
  • ⭐ Separating new from used: because the ownership-and-use condition is six months — new goods fall outside the relief and hold up the whole file.
  • Reviewing appliances before shipping: voltage and plug differences — and we tell you what is not worth the freight.
  • Surveying the final stretch: older buildings in Sofia and Plovdiv have narrow stairwells and sometimes no lift.
  • Dismantling, unpacking and reassembly: in your new home, with the inventory checked with you piece by piece.

Full container, shared consignment or boxes?

Aspect Full container Shared (LCL) Boxes or air
When it suits you A full home or a coastal apartment fit-out One or two rooms plus appliances Student effects and urgent cargo
⭐ With the two routes Suits the direct sea route — the volume justifies the voyage May suit the combined route — Aegean frequency is higher Air bypasses both routes at once
⭐ With service frequency One cut-off date we commit to ⚠️ Waits for the consolidator to fill — on the Black Sea that can mean a cycle Fastest by a meaningful margin
Pricing Fixed rate plus inland transport — in euro Per cubic metre with a minimum — in euro Per box or by volumetric weight

Note the second row — specific to Bulgaria and not to Romania: having two routes makes the choice of shipping type tied to the choice of route. A small consignment may be faster through an Aegean port and then the road, while a full container’s volume justifies the direct sea voyage. We put the comparison in writing before you choose.

Burgas
Plovdiv

Stara Zagora
Pleven
Sliven

Note Blagoevgrad and Bansko in the south-west: they are the closest to the Greek borderand the combined route via an Aegean port and then the road may be shorter to them than Varna is. We calculate both distances in writing before we fix the port.

Shipping rates from Saudi Arabia to Bulgaria

The final quote is built on the survey and your route — in euro, with a validity date.

Shipment type or line item Price Unit and notes
Boxes and small consignments Request a quote — set by survey Per box or by weight — in euro
Shared consignment (LCL) Request a quote — set by survey Per cubic metre — and the combined route may suit it
20 / 40 ft container Request a quote — set by survey Best suited to the direct sea route — with a specific cut-off
Air freight Request a quote — set by survey By volumetric weight — bypassing both straits and the road
⭐ Quote currency and validity date In euro — both stated We do not issue a quote in a currency no longer in circulation
⭐ Written comparison of the two routes No cost — a line in the quote By duration, cost and point of clearance
⭐ Inland transport or the road leg Set in the quote, by your destination And it differs fundamentally between the two routes
⚠️ Vehicle file Set after your file is reviewed Inside the residence relief or outside it — and valued in euro

Note the green and blue rows. The first is a rule rather than a service, and we declare it because the changeover is recent and many people still hold older figures. The second is a line that exists in no other destination in this group — because Bulgaria alone has two genuine routes.

⭐ Air freight — when is it genuinely worth it?

In most of our destinations we mention air as an option for urgent, small consignments. Here it carries a different weight — because it bypasses both routes at once.

Three cases where air is worth it on this lane specifically
⭐ The twelve-month window is about to close. Sea freight may not arrive before it does; air willand the price difference is smaller than losing the relief entirely.

⭐ Student effects and short-contract relocations. The volume is small, and waiting a whole cycle is not worth it — and Sofia, Varna and Burgas are all served by air.

⭐ High-value or sensitive items. Air reduces the number of handling stages, and avoids the long temperature swing inside a container.

⚠️ And when is it not worth it? When the volume is large — pricing by volumetric weight makes bulky furniture expensive without justification.

We put all three options — direct sea, combined and air — in one table by duration and cost, and we do not recommend one before we know your date, your volume and your city.

Documents required

A shipping invoice for Bulgaria showing an old and a new price column side by side
Two columns side by side — and the document must say which one is current.
⭐ The transfer-of-residence fileA passport with its stamps proving twelve months outside the EU · the residence registration certificate in Bulgaria · a detailed inventory valued in euro and signed · proof of delivery address · clearance authorisation · and a declaration of personal use.
The shipment fileThe original bill of lading or express release, and a copy air waybill · a commercial invoice for cargo · timber treatment certificates · an insurance policy with cover limits in euro · and vehicle documents where applicable.
The three questions we open with
First: when is your residence in Bulgaria established?because the twelve-month import window starts from that date.

Second: which city?because the answer decides the route and the port together, and the south-west is not the northern coast.

⭐ And third: are you holding an earlier quote or document in lev?because we restate any value in the currency now in force before we build anything on it.

Notice that none of the three has anything to do with the size of your shipment.

Anyone who asks you about cubic metres first is quoting you for a shipment that may not be exempt, on a route that may not be the best fit, in a currency that may no longer be current.

Clearance and demurrage

We handle clearance at both ends. Cargo arriving from outside the EU is cleared at its first point of entry into the EUand this is the single biggest practical difference between the two routes.

  • ⭐ The point of clearance is settled before booking: on the direct sea route it falls in Bulgaria; on the combined route it may fall at the first point of entry.
  • ⭐ The residence registration certificate before the cargo arrives: it is the key to the transfer-of-residence file — and cargo arriving ahead of it accrues storage.
  • ⭐ Every value in the file in euro: the inventory, the invoice and the insurance limits — reviewed before sailing, not at the quay.
  • A valued, signed inventory: not a general list — the file is read through its inventory before anything else.
  • Tracking the free days: counted from the discharge date rather than the sailing date — and reported to you in writing.
  • Then inland transport: by road to your destination — longer on the combined route, shorter on the direct one.

Prohibited and restricted items

  • Flammable and pressurised materials: aerosols, paints, solvents, fuel and gas — excluded entirely from any shipment.
  • ⭐ Foodstuffs and animal or plant products: subject to European sanitary and phytosanitary controland we advise against shipping them with household effects.
  • Alcohol and tobacco: outside the scope of transfer-of-residence relief — and not to be placed in the separate shipment.
  • Weapons and ammunition: of every kind — subject to strict permits and regulation.
  • Untreated timber: every crate and pallet needs certified treatment and a visible mark.
  • Protected species products: ivory, hides or rare shells — even as a family heirloom.
  • ⭐ New, unused goods: outside the six-month ownership-and-use condition — separated onto an independent declaration.

Packing and insurance

The challenge differs with your route: a long sea voyage through two straits, or a shorter sea leg followed by a substantial road crossing.

⭐ Packing that handles either routeThe combined route adds a loading and unloading cycle by road — and the packing is designed for what may happen, not for what we hope.
⭐ Sharp temperature swingFrom Gulf heat to a continental winter inland — and wood and leather suffer most.
⭐ Older buildings’ stairwellsIn Sofia and Plovdiv — and we dismantle large pieces rather than gamble on the turn.
⭐ Insurance with limits in euroWe confirm in writing that cover limits are in the currency now in force and that they extend to the road leg after the port.

Inland delivery after clearance

  • ⭐ Varna and Burgas are nearest: delivery there is the simplest stage of the sea route — both cities sit beside their ports.
  • Sofia: a substantial inland road run — quoted as a declared line item.
  • ⭐ The south-west: Blagoevgrad and Bansko — where the combined route may be shorter.
  • Coastal resorts: Nessebar and Sunny Beach — with seasonally congested streets, so we choose the timing.
  • Older buildings in city centres: narrow stairwells and sometimes no lift — and we survey the final stretch in advance.
  • ⭐ The continental winter: snow slows the mountain routes — and we build a written margin for it.

The reverse direction — Bulgaria to Saudi Arabia

We work both directions on the same ports and both routes. The dominant flow out of Bulgaria is agricultural and food products, perfumery and essential oils, textiles, and industrial goods, alongside returnees’ household effects.

And the currency rule applies in reverse: invoices and contracts issued from Bulgaria are drawn in euroand anyone holding an older quote in lev restates it before contracting. We present both routes in this direction too, since collection from the south-west may leave through an Aegean port rather than the Black Sea. We review your list before loading against Saudi import restrictions, and prepare the European export file to the same standard.

How to choose a shipping company from Saudi Arabia to Bulgaria

“What currency is the quote in?”Anyone quoting you in lev is quoting in a currency out of circulation since February 2026.
“Have you shown me both routes?”Anyone offering one route has kept from you an option that may be shorter to your city.
“Where does clearance take place?”Cargo is cleared at its first point of entry into the EU — and that changes with the route.
“When is my residence established?”Anyone who does not ask may ship before your window opens or after it closes.
“What currency are the insurance limits in?”A cover limit in an old currency is an ambiguous limit — discovered at claim time, not before.
“Which port for my city?”Anyone fixing the port before asking your city may add a road run that could have been avoided.

What we commit to in writing

⭐ We do not issue a quote in a currency out of circulationWe price in euro and state the validity date — and restate any older document before building on it.
⭐ We present both routes in writingBy duration, cost and point of clearance — and we do not choose for you.
⭐ We write the valued inventory in euroNot in a third currency needing two conversions — the inventory is the foundation of the whole file.
⭐ We review insurance limits in the current currencyIn writing — because a limit in an old currency is discovered at claim time, not before.
⭐ We ask your city before the portNot after — the choice of port follows your destination, not the other way round.
⭐ We settle the point of clearance before bookingBecause cargo is cleared at its first point of entry into the EU — and that changes with the route.

How to reduce your shipping cost

  • ⭐ Compare the routes before you compare the companies. The gap between one route and the other on this lane is larger than the gap between two quotes on the same route.
  • ⭐ Unify the comparison currency first. Comparing a lev quote with a euro quote is a false comparison — and the fixed rate makes conversion arithmetic rather than guesswork.
  • ⭐ Establish your residence before you ship. Cargo arriving ahead of the registration certificate waits at your expense.
  • ⭐ Do not buy new furniture before shipping. The six-month ownership-and-use condition excludes new goods from the relief.
  • ⭐ Choose the port by your city. Varna for the north and Burgas for the south — the wrong choice adds a whole road run.
  • Review your appliances before shipping. Anything unsuited to the local supply occupies volume for nothing.
  • Allow full dismantling. It reduces volume and protects pieces in older stairwells at once.

When do prices rise and transit times stretch?

Period or situation What happens
⭐ A file with values in the old currency A factor specific to this lane at this moment — restating means delay, and discovering it late costs more.
⭐ Choosing the wrong route for the city A factor specific to Bulgaria — having two routes means the wrong choice adds a whole road run.
⭐ Peak coastal season Black Sea resort traffic rises and their streets congest — and we choose the delivery timing.
⭐ Missing the cut-off on the sea route Heavier here than at a Mediterranean port — because services into an enclosed sea are less frequent.
⚠️ Cargo arriving ahead of the residence certificate It waits at your expense — the certificate is the key to the relief file, and we confirm its issue before sailing.

How we work: five steps

1City, date and currencyWhich city? When is your residence established? And are you holding a document in the old currency? Before volume and before price.
2Comparing the two routesDirect by sea or combined via Greece? By duration, cost and point of clearance — in writing.
3Euro inventory and packingNew separated from used, and packing that handles the chosen route with its loading and unloading.
4File ready, then sailingRegistration certificate, inventory, bill of lading and insurance limits — all in the current currency before sailing.
5Clearance, then deliveryClearance at the agreed point of entry, then road transport, then reassembly and the inventory check.

Five recurring mistakes — all of them avoidable

  • Relying on a quote or inventory written in lev. The mistake most specific to this moment — the euro has been the sole legal tender since February 2026, and documents are read months after they are written.
  • Assuming a single route. Bulgaria alone in this group has two genuine routes — and anyone who did not compare them may pay more and arrive later.
  • Fixing the port before asking about the city. Varna for the north and Burgas for the south — the wrong choice is a whole road run.
  • Shipping before the residence is established. The registration certificate is the key to the relief file — and cargo that arrives ahead of it waits at your expense.
  • Assuming Schengen means no clearance. Schengen concerns checks on persons, not customs — cargo from outside the EU is cleared at its first point of entry.

Why Tiger Cargo Express?

Because we do not issue a quote in a currency that is no longer in circulation. Bulgaria adopted the euro on 1 January 2026, and it has been the sole legal tender since 1 February. A shipping file is made of paper, and every page carries a figure that is read months after it is written — the valued inventory, the insurance limits, the transport invoice. We write all of them in euro with a validity date, and restate any older document before building anything on it.

And because we present both routes rather than one. Bulgaria alone in this group has a genuine land option, because its border with Greece is fully open following the completion of its Schengen membership. We set out both routes by duration, cost and point of clearance in writing — and we ask which city before we fix the port, because the choice follows your destination, not the other way round.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Saudi Arabia to Bulgaria

I have an older quote in lev — is it still valid?⭐⭐ Not as it stands — and this is the most important question in the article. Bulgaria adopted the euro on 1 January 2026 and became the twenty-first member of the euro area, dual circulation ran through January, and the euro has been the sole legal tender since 1 February 2026. ⭐ The conversion rate is fixed at 1.95583 lev to the eurowhich works in your favour because the conversion is arithmetic rather than a guess. ⚠️ But the document must say in euro what it used to say in lev — not be left for the reader to work out. We restate any older quote, inventory or insurance policy before building anything on it.
Why does this matter to a shipper rather than a tourist?Because a shipping file is made of paper — and every page carries a figure read months after it is written. A tourist pays cash and moves on. Your file holds: the detailed valued inventory, the foundation of the entire transfer-of-residence file · the insurance policy and its cover limits · the inland transport invoice and its line items · and any older quote you still hold. ⚠️ Anyone who wrote their inventory in lev before the changeover and submitted it after, submits a document with values in a currency no longer in circulation. And we flag the insurance limits in particulara cover limit in an old currency is an ambiguous limit, and it is discovered at claim time, not before.
Is there a route other than the Black Sea?Yes — and this is what sets Bulgaria apart in this group. Its ports lie on the Black Sea behind the same two straits we explained in the Romania article. But Bulgaria has been a full Schengen member since January 2025, and its borders with Greece and Romania are fully openchecks at internal air and sea borders having been lifted in March 2024. Which means reaching a Greek Aegean port and continuing north has become a continuous route rather than a broken one. ⚠️ But do not confuse the two: Schengen concerns checks on persons, and cargo from outside the EU is cleared at its first point of entry into the EUa decision to be taken before booking: where does clearance take place?
Which route is better for me?It follows your city and your volume — and we put the comparison in writing so that you choose. The direct sea route to Varna or Burgas: it transits both straits, its service frequency is lower because the Black Sea is enclosed, but it has no extra road stagebest suited to the coast and to larger volumes. The combined route via a Greek port and then the road: it does not transit the straits, and Aegean frequency is higher because those ports sit on an open route, but it adds a substantial road runbest suited to Sofia, the south and urgent cargo. ⭐ Note Blagoevgrad and Bansko in the south-west: they are closest to the Greek border, and the combined route may be shorter to them than Varna is.
What are the transfer-of-residence conditions?Bulgaria has been an EU member since 2007 and works under the same European customs framework. The conditions: normal residence outside the EU for twelve continuous months · ownership and use of the goods for at least six months · import within twelve months of establishing your normal residence · and a twelve-month disposal restriction after release, during which the goods may not be lent, pledged, hired out or transferred · with the goods being for personal use and proportionate to your household’s needs. ⭐ You submit alongside them the residence registration certificate, a detailed inventory valued in euro, the passport and proof of address. ⚠️ Some details are decided case by case and requirements are subject to change — which is why we review the current position before booking.
Varna or Burgas? The rule: the choice of port follows your destination inside Bulgaria, not the other way round. Varna is the northern Black Sea port, closest to the northern coast and its property districts, and to the inland road toward Sofia. Burgas is the southern port, closest to the southern coast and to the road into southern Bulgaria. ⚠️ Anyone who shipped to Varna with a home in the south added a road run that could have been avoidedand that is cost and time together. We ask which city before we fix the port, and we calculate both distances in writing.
Bulgaria is in Schengen — does that mean no clearance?⚠️ No — and this is a common confusion. Schengen concerns checks on persons, not customs. Bulgaria has been a full Schengen member since January 2025, after land border checks were lifted; air and sea border checks had been lifted in March 2024; and its borders with Greece and Romania are fully open. That is precisely what makes the land route a genuine option — the road has become continuous for the driver and the vehicle. ⚠️ But cargo arriving from outside the EU is cleared at its first point of entry into the EU regardless of Schengenthe customs union is one thing and Schengen is another. This is why we settle the point of clearance before booking rather than after.
Should I ship my car?Yes — left-hand drive is the standard here, so your Gulf car is fine on that count. ⚠️ But note a fundamental distinction: importing is one thing and registering is anothertechnical conformity for local registration is separate from customs clearance, and we set it out in writing. ⭐ And if the vehicle enters under the transfer-of-residence relief, it is subject to the same ownership, use and twelve-month disposal conditions. And one point specific to this moment: the vehicle’s value in the file is stated in euroit is the highest-value line in most files, and writing it in an old currency is the most visible error in the whole document. The standard steps: draining fuel and disconnecting the battery · four-point lashing with straps and chocks · emptying the vehicle completely · and photographic documentation before sealing.
My shipment arrived before I established residence — what happens?⚠️ It waits at your expense — the most common trap in European transfer-of-residence files. The residence registration certificate is the key to the file, and the twelve-month import window starts from the date your normal residence is established. ⭐ Which means shipping far too early is no less damaging than shipping far too latethe first accrues storage, the second falls outside the window. We build your shipping schedule around your date, not around the sailing schedule, and confirm the certificate has been issued before sailing rather than after. And on the sea route this weighs morebecause services into an enclosed sea are less frequent, so rescheduling is not in your hands.
How does Bulgaria differ from Romania and Croatia?Three neighbouring countries in three different monetary positions — which surprises many people.Bulgaria: an EU member since 2007 · Schengen since January 2025 · the euro since January 2026. ▸ Romania: an EU member · Schengen since January 2025 · and it has not adopted the euro, its currency being the Romanian leu. ▸ Croatia: a member since 2013 · and the euro and Schengen together since January 2023. ⚠️ Anyone quoting you for “the Balkans” with a single offer has not noticed. The customs framework is the same across all three — the EU transfer-of-residence reliefbut the currency, the point of clearance and the route differ, and those are the details that cost money.
Do you handle embassy and international organisation shipments?Yes — their presence is in Sofia as the capital, with clearance at Varna, Burgas or the capital’s airport. Mission and staff shipments do not travel the personal-effects route and are not subject to its conditions — neither the twelve-month requirement nor the disposal restriction — and the basis is the standing of the mission within the framework of the Vienna Convention of 1961. ⭐ But currency does not recognise standing: any document carrying a value — an inventory, an invoice or an insurance policy — is read in the currency now in force, whether the consignee is a relocating family or a diplomatic mission. Standing changes the path of the paperwork; it does not change the unit of measure inside it. ⚠️ Anyone who prepared a mission file with values written before the changeover prepared a document correct in standing and ambiguous in figure.
Do you ship from Bulgaria to Saudi Arabia?Yes, on the same ports and both routes. The dominant flow is agricultural and food products, perfumery and essential oils, textiles, and industrial goods, alongside returnees’ household effects. ⭐ And the currency rule applies in reverse: invoices and contracts issued from Bulgaria are drawn in euroand anyone holding an older quote in lev restates it before contracting. We present both routes in this direction too, since collection from the south-west may leave through an Aegean port rather than the Black Sea. We review your list before loading against Saudi import restrictions, and prepare the European export file to the same standard.

In summary

Bulgaria is a European destination with a familiar customs framework — but it is passing through a transition unlike any other. It adopted the euro on 1 January 2026, which became its sole legal tender on 1 February, and any document with values in lev is no longer executable as it stands. Add to that the fact that it has two genuine routes rather than one, thanks to its open land border following the completion of its Schengen membership. What you need here is three things: a quote in euro with a validity date, a written comparison of the two routes, and a company that asks your city before it fixes the port. Tiger Cargo Express gives you all three before you ship.

Send us your shipment details — the approximate volume, your departure city, your city in Bulgaria, the date your residence is established, and any earlier quote or document you are holding — and we will come back with a detailed quote in euro and a comparison of both routes within 60 minutes. 0506688227
